One thing I love about being a wedding photographer is getting to shoot different and alternative weddings. Emma and Andy’s was definitely not your standard wedding, since they chose to have their ceremony in a beautiful bluebell wood near Ashton Court Mansion, Bristol. Opting for an intimate outdoor ceremony with just 33 close friends and family and they were lucky it was a nice dry day! However, wellies were worn just in case of a downpour (we are in England after all!)
I haven’t seen a more amazing place for a wedding ceremony; a stunning wood with a sea of bluebells covering the floor. The woods also had a sentimental place in the couples hearts as it was the same place that Andy had popped the big question a year earlier. With bluebells also being Emma’s favourite flower you couldn’t get any more personal than that.
On the wedding day it’s often the guys that get emotional and shed a few tears but this time it was the bride, Emma. She almost had me going at one point!
After the ceremony the guests made their way to the Mansion House for food and speeches. One of the things Emma and Andy asked from me was to get some great shots of their little girl, so the 4 of us stayed in the woods after the guest wandered off in order to get some shots amongst the beautiful surroundings.
We then made our way to meet the rest of the wedding party at the Mansion House, where a delicious wedding breakfast was served and a round of heartfelt (and hilarious) speeches. This was soon followed by a first dance out on the lawn with a fun balloon release. Without an extended evening reception all the festivities were wrapped up by 8pm.
This was a super relaxed wedding to photograph and as is often the case with smaller weddings I almost start to feel like part of the family!
Here are some of my favourite shots from Emma and Andy’s special day.
