FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How would you describe your style?
When asked to describe my approach I use words like heartwarming, relaxed, fresh, stylish and candid. I tend to work well with like-minded fun couples who don’t take themselves too seriously.
I’m an upbeat and hard working photographer that cares about telling the story of your wedding naturally and honestly, without being bossy or obtrusive. I simply let your day unfold and at every stage I’ll be there to discreetly capture all the antics, emotions and special moments that make up a wedding.
Where are you based?

I’m Bristol born and bred. I love it so much that I haven’t left. I also frequently cover Bath, Wiltshire, Somerset, Gloucestershire, South Wales and I’m more than happy to travel around the rest of the UK.

How long have you been a photographer?

I’ve been a photographer since I was a teenager (yes, a long time ago!) and a professional wedding and portrait photographer for around 16 years.

We’re nervous about the thought of having our photos taken, will this be an issue?

Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you will feel nice and comfortable in front of the camera during your couple portraits. The rest of the time you’ll forget I’m there with my photo ninja skills. Most of the couples you see in my portfolio have had the same concerns and asked this very question.

Do you offer a complimentary engagement photoshoot?

Absolutely, yes. It’s a perfect opportunity for us to get to know each other, so I won’t be “a stranger” capturing those all-important moments on your special day. I have found that these are a perfect way to settle any nerves about having your photos taken ahead of your wedding. You guys can choose a location or I can recommend somewhere. You may like to use a cool trendy urban space or a rustic rural location.

How would you describe your style of editing photos?

I would define my style of editing as bright and fresh. As a documentary wedding photographer, I always keep the colours of your venue, clothing, flowers, styling and skin tones true to life. I pay attention to every little detail, making sure all your images look their best. In my opinion, natural post-production is timeless and will never go out of fashion.

What time do you start?

If you decide to book me to cover the morning preparations I usually start 3 hours ahead of your ceremony. I generally focus more on the bridal party but if the groomsmen are nearby (and keen!) I’m happy to head over to see them as well. This gives me a chance to get some candid shots of the boys being boys (perhaps having a cheeky pint?) and as an added bonus I’ll make sure they’re on time, with their button holes attached correctly! (The girls are allowed to be fashionably late…)

How long do you stay for?

If I’m booked to photograph the evening shenanigans I normally stay for roughly an hour after your first dance. This will give me plenty of time to capture lots of the antics on the dance floor. Don’t worry if your day is running behind schedule I have a flexible finish time and will make sure I capture everything at no extra cost.

How long does it take to photograph our couple portraits?

I won’t take you away for long periods of time to perfect heavily posed couple portraits. Instead, I’ll grab you for 20-30 minutes, so we can create a set of super-chilled and timeless portraits that not only capture you looking your best but feeling your best. This will leave more time for you to enjoy your party with your guests and for me to capture more of the fun antics.

Do you take golden hour/sunset photos?

Yes, most defiantly. These are often a couples favorite photos from their wedding day. I will constantly be keeping an eye on the weather and with my experience I will figure out the best time to get the most out of the light and find the perfect spot at any venue. Don’t worry if the weather isn’t playing ball, as there’s always fun and creative alternatives.

Do you take group photos?

Of course, even though I have a candid style I understand that these photos are really important. I highly recommend keeping your group shots limited to the key people. A list of 5-10 is ideal, especially since I’ll be capturing loads of natural shots of your loved ones throughout the whole day.

Can we see entire weddings you’ve photographed?

Sure thing, please head over to my featured weddings page. Here you can check out full weddings I’ve photographed from all 4 seasons and a handful of end of year highlights.

Our dog will be a part of our day, is that ok?

This has never happened (touch wood) but I do have a plan in place just in case. I’m part of a collective of photographers and I will find another photographer with a similar style to cover me. I will always be the one editing your photos to ensure they match the bright and colourful style you see on my website.

Do you have backup equipment?

Are you insured?

Do we need to feed you?

If I’m staying to photograph into the evening then yes please, that would be great. If you choose not to book me for the evening party, there’s no need to feed me.

How much do you cost?

My pricing starts from £900. Find out more about my pricing here.

How do we book?

The best way is to organise a casual chat, online, over the phone or in person. I can go over the whole process in lots of detail and answer all your questions. If everything sounds good, I’ll need a £500 booking fee (taken off the final amount) along with a signed contract… then I’m all yours!

How many cats do you have?

You might be amused to read this in my FAQs but I *am* asked it surprisingly frequently! If you’ve read my about me page you’ll know I’m an unashamed cat man. I’m the proud father of 3 amazing furry boys called Max, Louie and Charlie.

He fitted in so well with all our guests that we hardly realised he was there! He made us feel so comfortable, never rushed and captured natural shots throughout the day which meant we were never far away from the action.

We haven’t stopped looking at all the albums he created and the pictures arrived within weeks.

We couldn’t have asked for better and will treasure all our pictures for years to come. Simon you are amazing and we would recommend you to anyone and everyone!”
